Amber Flores hit a solo homer in the first inning and Oklahoma added two more runs in the third to defeat Iowa State 3-0 Saturday afternoon at the Big 12 Championships at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City.

With the loss, the Cyclones ended the season with a 26-29 record, while Oklahoma (39-13) advanced to play Baylor later Saturday.

D.J. Mathis (17-4) held the Cyclones to two hits while striking out five in four innings of work. Kirsten Allen picked up the save for OU, allowing three hits in three innings of relief.

The Cyclones outhit the Sooners five to four, and Rachel Zabriskie (18-24) allowed just four hits while striking out four. Zabriskie’s 18 wins ties her for fourth all-time on the Iowa State single-season charts.

“We’re taking steps,” Zabriskie said. “We’ve come up from the bottom of the Big 12. We aren’t going to go from the bottom to the top really quickly, but we are making progress.”

The Sooners put a run on the board in the first inning and two more in the third to hold a 3-0 edge heading into the fourth inning.

Flores, the Big 12 player of the year, got the Sooners on the board in the first inning with a solo shot, her 16th homer of the season.

“I was just looking for a good pitch to drive,” Flores said. “She kind of left it over the plate a little bit, so I just kept my hands inside and drove the ball. I’m glad we could get a run and go up right away.”

Oklahoma tacked on two more runs in the third inning on a single by Katie Norris that popped out of the glove of a diving Kelsey Kidwell, allowing Flores and Dani Dobbs to score.

The Cyclones had an opportunity in the sixth inning with runners on first and second base and Alex Johnson at the plate, but Kidwell was caught in a run down and tagged out trying to advance to third base for the third out of the inning.

Amanda Bradberry went 2 for 3 to lead Iowa State. In the tournament, Bradberry went 4 for 6 with a double and a home run. Sydni Jones and Heidi Kidwell joined Jacquelyn Beatty in the hit column for the Cyclones on Saturday.
